Hello everyone, Ted here! As if yesterday's Fable Anniversary announcements weren't exciting enough, we have more in store for you...

I bloody love achievements. Sure, my Gamerscore could be higher, but why play anything other than Fable Anniversary – right?! Ahem.

Now that I’ve got my excuses out of the way for not having better ‘G’ (although I like to think that 40,000 is a decent enough score!), let’s get onto the good stuff. The thing you’ve all been waiting for. No, no - not that you can grow an acorn or meet a Sandgoose. This is about something far more exciting – Fable Anniversary’s achievement list!

Introduction

Any game designer will testify, that designing Xbox achievements is a blast! We always open the ideas pool up to every single member of staff here at Lionhead, and this year we started with a list of over 150 ideas. We then whittled this down to 49 achievements, but we just couldn’t think of a 50th – which is where you guys and girls came in! For those of you that may remember, we invited YOU, the fans, to help us design the 50th achievement. You submitted over 3,000 ideas (almost putting us out of a job in the process), to which there was a winner and it is now in the game; http://www.lionhead.com/blog/2013/july/19/design-an-achievement-winner!/

With the intro out of the way, now onto the achievements themselves. Let me explain in a little more detail what you’re about to read and the reasons why it is presented as it is. As you know by now, I really like achievements. BUT! I really HATE spoilers, therefore I find myself often not reading achievement announcements out of pure fear of #spoilers! What I’ve decided to do then, is to rate each of our achievements in this blog based on a spoiler rating from 1 to 5;

  • A “Category 1” Achievement is something that is just a bit of fun you can do at almost any point in the game.
  • A “Category 3” Achievement is something that, whilst you can’t miss it, it will require you to do something different, something that requires thinking outside of the box.
  • A “Category 5” Achievement however, is the big spoiler daddy of achievements. These Category 5’s will be at the very bottom of this blog. So be warned, that if you want to know ***** that happens in ***** when you’re ***** then only read to the bottom!

The Icons

So first up on this achievements blog; the icons! I’m going to tell you a short story about these achievements, but first I need you to picture this; a kid at school, with ginger hair, glasses and braces. Yep, that was me. Not only did I have all this, just to make sure I ticked all of the cliché boxes, I also collected stamps. Nerd alert indeed, but I like to think also something to be proud of! Although I don’t collect stamps anymore (I’m waaaay too cool for that now, honest), when I started designing the Fable Anniversary achievements I was trying to think of things that hadn’t been done before, which in over 8 years since the first Xbox 360 achievement went ‘plink’ is not an easy task! This got me thinking though, that I hadn’t ever seen the Gamerscore added to the icon before (please prove me wrong in the forum comments!), and then my nothing-to-be-ashamed-of-but-also-super-nerdy childhood memories of stamp collecting also kicked in. What if the Fable Anniversary achievement icons looked like the quaint little English stamps that I would collect as a kid, so here you have it – the full set of 50 stamps as created by our very talented 2D artist Jenny;

The Missables

With the icons out of the way and perhaps even some intriguing foundations being laid, I’m going to move on to what is commonly known as the “Missable Achievement”. I know how much these can suck (I’m looking at you, Sander Cohen!) so even though a couple of the following could be classed as a “Category 3” achievement, they won’t spoil anything of major spoilery importance for you;

20G - Are You Not Entertained!?

Description: Complete all 8 rounds of the Arena without taking a break.
Post-complete: You completed the Arena without rest, is this not why you were here?

5G - Hero, Their Health Is Low

Description: Heal a follower on an Escort Quest. No, not *that* kind of 'escort'.
Post-complete: The healing is not as rewarding as the hurting!

20G - Combat, Evolved

Description: Use an 'Ages of...' Potion with a combat multiplier of 20 or more.
Post-complete: Spend your new experience wisely, and yes - you're welcome for the top tip.

10G - As Quiet As A Whisper

Description: Defeat Whisper in a battle without losing any health.
Post-complete: You silenced Whisper in combat, who said chivalry was dead?

The Category 1's & 2's

Now that we’ve discussed the potentially missable achievements, I feel it’s time to move onto the category 1’s / 2’s, and there’s a short story behind these achievements too! It was a lovely summer’s day at Lionhead; the skies were grey and it was raining hard. We had with us our list of 150 achievement ideas, but something didn’t seem right. It was then, that we conjured up the idea that “For every achievement, a consequence”. Ok, ok, perhaps not every achievement, but we thought wouldn’t it be cool to have 15 achievements that could be earned in one of two ways! Here are those very 15 achievements, along with the conditions that you need to unlock them;

25G - For Every Choice, An Achievement

Description: Become holier than Avo, or more evil than Skorm!
Post-complete: Horns or Halo? Your choice of headgear has far reaching consequences.

15G - But You're A Wizard, Hero

Description: Learn one of each spell type, or own one of each weapon type.
Post-complete: What kind of Hero are you; The Jack of All Trades, or The Master of One?

15G - That's A Real Lunker!

Description: Win 1st prize in the Fisherman's competition, or complete the boast for doing any quest naked.
Post-complete: You got your tackle out, one way or the other.

15G - Fight Cluck

Description: Become the Fist Fighter's World Champion, or win the Chicken Hat in the Chicken Kicking Competition.
Post-complete: Punching people or kicking Chickens; it's all considered an achievement in Albion.

15G - Arthur Or Robin?

Description: Pull the sword from the stone, or earn the top prize in the Archery Competition.
Post-complete: Whether you chose large biceps, or a hawk's-eye - you chose well.

15G - Choosing My Religion

Description: Donate a total of 100,000 Gold to the Temple of Avo, or sacrifice 10 people to the Chapel of Skorm.
Post-complete: Making a sacrifice is never easy. The decisions, the expense. . . the wriggling.

20G - Open Saysmemiddlefinger

Description: Open all the Demon Doors, or show a closed Demon Door what you think of it.
Post-complete: Talking stone doors that give you ridiculous riddles? We've seen it all now!

15G - Project Ego

Description: Show all available witnesses a trophy in the trophy mini-game, or decorate your home with a trophy.
Post-complete: The world has seen your ego for what it is, don't let it go to your head.

10G - What Are Ya Sellin'?

Description: Make a profit from selling to a trader, or steal an item using the "Steal" expression from a trader.
Post-complete: Is that all, stranger? Come back anytime.

10G - The Hero Of Time

Description: Eat a Moonfish in Bowerstone during the day, or a Golden Carrot at night.
Post-complete: A true Hero is one that can control time. Bonus points if you were wearing a green hat.

20G - Beauty Or The Beast

Description: Reach the maximum of your chosen attractiveness; ugly or beautiful!
Post-complete: Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who's the [insert choice here] of them all?

10G - Marital Relations

Description: Receive a gift from your spouse, or flirt with an admirer in front of your spouse.
Post-complete: Marriage - two's company, three's a crowd!

10G - The Drinking Game

Description: Drink until you vomit, or 'help' a friendly villager get drunk.
Post-complete: Remember to drink responsibly, and whatever you do: you should not drink and bake.

20G - Definitely Not On Rails

Description: Visit every region (excluding Demon Doors), or increase your waistline so that you don't have to.
Post-complete: You've either explored the world of Albion, or you're now the size of the world of Albion.

15G - Get Rich Or Die Tryin'

Description: Earn 10,000 Gold from property rental, or die.
Post-complete: Being a landlord is a bit like being the Grim Reaper, so why not combine the two!

But this is where it gets really interesting; you will unlock a unique achievement icon on the Fable Anniversary achievement interface based on the decision that you make. Not only will your friends know what decision you made when they see your stamp collection, so will the in-game characters. Oh, so you decided to become obese in order to shortcut the “Definitely Not On Rails” achievement? Watch the villagers of Albion judge you the next time you enter the local tavern!

The Category 3’s & 4’s

We’re getting close now, it’s time to move onto the Category 3’s and 4’s. These achievements require a certain amount of thought, or a certain technique in order to unlock. These are the kind of achievements that will unlock if you pull off a cool feat, or reward you from doing something different. If you don’t want to spoil the surprise of these, look away now!

5G - Ass Creed

Description: Whilst dressed as an Assassin, be silent but deadly
Post-complete: You were deadly alright; look at the size of that hole in your trousers! Quick, find a haystack!

5G - I Did This For A Cheevo

Description: Perform a headshot with a Crossbow whilst dressed as a woman wearing a beard and the Redhead Wig.
Post-complete: Achievement Unlocked; You look ridiculous.

10G - There Is No Spoon

Description: Use the power of mind control on an enemy, and have them kill one of their allies.
Post-complete: Mind control is great, but with great power comes responsilbility. Or the fun of irresponsibility.

25G - Out Of The Frying Pan...

Description: …Into your face! Express your feelings through the medium of Frying Pan.
Post-complete: You showed someone how you felt about them... With the underside of a Frying Pan.

10G - Feed The Troll

Description: Give a Troll a taste of its own medicine.
Post-complete: Apart from this one time, remember; never, EVER feed the Troll.

10G - The Summoner's Tail

Description: Summon a powerful creature to fight by your side.
Post-complete: Because creatures are better when they're fighting for you!

20G - The Swinging Sword

Description: Hit 3 enemies simultaneously with a single flourish like you're a real swinger.
Post-complete: Now that's what I call a Swinging Sword! Oh, you thought we meant "Singing Sword"?

30G - You Are A Super Player

Description: Find all 30 silver keys. In unrelated news; the Fable Anniversary Strategy guide is available now!
Post-complete: You found all the Silver Keys! You are a super player!

15G - Fable Heroes

Description: The Bowerstone Teacher is on the lookout for Hero Dolls, help him find them!
Post-complete: The Bowerstone Teacher loves Fable Heroes, more than 55% of him anyway.

25G - Education Rules The Nation

Description: The children in Bowerstone have no books to read! You don't want illiterate children, do you?
Post-complete: The children are literate again, you have made Albion a more intelligent place. For now.

5G - Get It Off Your Chest

Description: Open your first Silver Key Chest to reveal the amazing surprise inside!
Post-complete: That's one Silver Key Chest down! You're going to go on to open them all now, right?

10G - Horde Mode

Description: Some weapons are Legendary, and we feel it's worth you collecting at least 10 of them.
Post-complete: You collected 10 Legendary weapons! Although some might call that, "overcompensating"...

5G - The Ultimate Warrior

Description: Treat yourself to a beard, haircut and tattoo, the 'Toupée And Tattoo Society' demands it.
Post-complete: Your Hero looks badass! Why not share an image of them on the Lionhead forums? Wink Wink

20G - That's My Man!

Description: Level up a complete abilities tree, be it Strength, Skill or Will.
Post-complete: You levelled up a complete abilities tree! Will you now become a real Hero and master all three?

25G - I Am Legendary

Description: Earn enough Renown to be known in Albion as "Legendary".
Post-complete: You’ve gone from a Chicken Chaser to a Legendary Hero. All in a day’s work.

20G - See The Future

Description: Connect Xbox SmartGlass to Fable Anniversary, isn’t technology amazing!
Post-complete: Have you ever seen such smart-glass?! (Nice play on words there, smart-arse).

THE CATEGORY FIVES

This is it, if you’ve read this far you are a true achievement hunter. You are the kind of player that will earn achievements at all costs even if it means playing Avatar: The Legend of Aang, you’ll laugh in the face of a website *spoiler* tag, and if someone says they haven’t seen Star Wars, you are the first to reply with “Darth Vader is Luke’s father”. You, oh immortal one, are now rewarded with all 15 of the story-based achievements;

And that brings to an end this achievements blog post. To the 0.1% of you that are still reading – thank you. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this blog, so get posting below!

From all of us at Lionhead, we hope you have fun unlocking these achievements when you play Fable Anniversary in February of 2014!

Ted

These are quite awesome , love the idea of achievements that you can earn in multiple ways. I'll definitely be unlocking the achievements in the evil way when presented with the chance. Lionhead has always done a good job with the achievements so it's no surprise to see these are pretty clever and have some nice references (Love the Bioshock one).

Ah, very nice, very nice indeed!
*nabs icons for Fable Wiki*

Nice job on the alternative achievements, wasn't expecting there to be two different icons depending on which way you unlock it!

I absolutely love the stamp themed design they look brilliant! And the dual achievement idea is completely genius, I always spy on my friends achievement lists and i love that I'll be able to see a little bit into how their hero went through the story, I am properly impressed! (I also love the game of thrones reference!) They seem a really good balance of fun, skill based, story based, collectible related, and it looks like it going to a lot of fun completing them all, with none that look too difficult. I'm even more excited for release day now!

Love the thinking behind these achievements. Surprised to see that the “For every achievement, a consequence” ones have different icons depending on the choice. Didn't even know this was possible; leave it up to Lionhead to come up with something unique. I'm not even going to look at the conditions for those dual-achievements. I'll just play through the game normally and then see which ones I'll end up with as I earn them.

That Theresa achievement icon is adorable. I want to hug it and love it and start an innocent but soon to become perverted in some quarters guy movement based on it. We'll be the Broresas.

Ahem, anyway. What's this about the people of Albion reacting to your choices? Is this new code or are we talking about the regular coding of the game here? For example, if the Fat or Regions achivement is completed by getting fat, but then the character loses that weight (the jog from Oakvale to Bowerstone usually does that) then will they still call him a fatty for the way he got the achievement, or will they only react as they would have done to him being fat anyway?

Also, is this question making sense to anyone? I have the feeling that I'm not getting across what I'm trying to ask.

Hmm, shouldn't that be "Hoard Mode"? Or is that one pun too far? :P

15G - That's A Real Lunker!

Description: Win 1st prize in the Fisherman's competition, or complete the boast for doing any quest naked.
Post-complete: You got your tackle out, one way or the other.

ok im confused, lets say i did the first option of getting first prize at the fisherman's competition, what would happen to the other option? can i still get it?

That's the funny part of this new idea. You can only get one or the other icon, so your friends will be able to see if you're a hero or a zero by how you accomplished an achievement. Fart

The interesting thing is that some of these will take restraint to get rather than skill. So the vast majority will automatically pick up one version as they go which makes the other one become more rare. I bet it'd be easy to figure out which would be the rarest...

Being evil is actually a lot harder than maxing out good in the original game as you get good points for every creature you kill. Unless they rebalanced it, the evil route will be rarest.

I'd say the weapons is likely to be the rare one here. The reason is that a vast majority max out their characters, but sell weapons as they move on to new ones and don't pick certain weapon types.

Hmmm, tough to call this one. A lot of people miss the fisherman quest as it's tucked away at the side, but then a lot of people will be coming in having played games without the boasting feature. I say the naked one will be rarest.

The chicken kicking one will be rarest. Calling it now. Stat raising will win you the fist fighters pretty easily, but getting first prize in the Chicken Kicking competition takes some skill and planning.

Another tough one to call here. I'd say the archery competition is going to be harder to get, but I remember a lot of threads on the original forums with people who couldn't figure out how to pull that sword from the stone. As one takes skill and another simply stat raising, I'm guessing the archery badge will be rarest.

Skorm will be rarest. Calling it now. After a while you see no result, until a specific sacrifice, and a lot will give up before hitting ten.

The finger to the door is a pretty specific thing to do, but one of the doors can be missed based on decisions in quests. Can't call this one at all.

Hanging a trophy can be done almost immediately after beating the Wasp Queen with enough work. Showing a trophy and getting everyone requires a knowledge of the regions and people placements. Showing will be the rare one.

Making a profit will be rare if it doesn't count found items as free. If it does, then stealing will be the rare one. Also, is this a reference to Resident Evil 4?

Moonfish in Bowerstone will be rare. I believe Golden Carrots are more readily available without fishing in Darkwood, and they don't have the condition of a specific place.

Drinking until vomiting is pretty hard to do, but kind of more likely than gifting a beer to a villager for most people.

Getting really fat is easier in Fable than other games, but less likely until you reach the Demon Door that wants it. The reward is worth skipping for most people who know what they're getting into though. Still, I'll guess the all regions one will be rarest.
